HOW IT WORKS
Modern solar panels have become extremely efficient and affordable. Solar panels are mainly composed of silicon (under glass) which can generate electrical energy when exposed to sunlight. When sunlight hits your solar panels, protons from the light pass through the panels’ silicon wafers and generate a DC electrical current. Your system will also use an inverter to harness that current and convert it into an AC electrical current which will power your machinery.
There is also an option to add battery storage to your system which will allow you to store and use excess solar energy at night or in the event of grid power outages.
There are three main reasons why small business owners like yourself are going solar with no out of pocket costs:
1. USDA Cash Grant – Under the Rural Electric for America Program (REAP), the USDA awards 50% cash grants to qualified rural small businesses.
2. Investment Tax Credits – Qualified rural businesses receive a 40% investment tax credit, significantly reducing or eliminating their tax bills.
3. Accelerated Depreciation Deductions – Rural business owners can elect to depreciate the system cost in the year installed. The tax deduction offsets business income which in turn reduces or eliminates the federal and state (if applicable) business income taxes.

After getting a Master’s Degree in Taxation and a law degree I started and managed an independent oil & gas company. For years I drilled and produced oil & gas in Oklahoma.
